Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Graduation - Prescott, AZ - 12 Dec 2009

I am going to toot my own horn here for a minute. I graduated from Embry-Riddle today in Prescott, AZ. The degree is Master of Aeronautical Science (MAS) and my Capstone Project title was: Single Operator Control of Multiple UAV's: Are We Ready?

We took a roadtrip out to Arizona to walk in the graduation commencement which was held today at the Prescott Campus. A good friend that I did most of the degree with came out and we walked together. It was great to have Stacy and the kids and my parents there with me to celebrate!

Palmdale 10K and Kids 1K - 05 Dec 2009

It was frieking cold and the wind was blowing like crazy. The run was along the California Acqueduct, which was pretty cool. Skye did great.....she came in like 5th or 6th place. I ran the 10K in 55:12, about 5 minutes better than last year.

A Shaver Lake Thanksgiving......

The McCollum side of the family traveled to Shaver Lake, CA to spend Thanksgiving this year. We stayed in Lyndsay's family cabin and rented the cabin next door. The whole family was there, so it was really nice. A little sickness going around and a quarantine cabin were the only unhighlights of the weekend. We got out to the lake to feed the ducks and eat lunch, but it was super cold. Most of the time was spent inside playing Guitar Hero or Wii Snowboarding, which is a blast, by the way. We got a dusting of snow on Friday night which was neat for the kids. The 4runner does very nice donuts in the cul-de-sac too.........

The Little Sea Monkey......

For those that don't know........Stacy is pregnant!!!!!! She is 19 weeks today and we were able to get an ultrasound done today. Check out the picture of the little guy/gal. That's right, we didn't find out what it is. It will be quite the surprise. Skye is pulling for a baby sister. This way we get to choose boy and girl names.

The little sea monkey was active in there swimming around during the ultrasound. Still lots of room to move around. He/she has a nice and strong little hearbeat and was very active.

Camping and Riding in Kennedy Meadows

We took the family and motorcycles to Kennedy Meadows in the south eastern Sierras this weekend for some fun. We met up with a group of guys from work. We camped at a great dry camp called Mahogony and we could leave for the motorcycle trails right from camp. I ended up riding 42 miles of single track through the woods on Saturday. By the end of the last ride, I was wooped. It was very challenging riding and I only dumped the bike once! Yes, that is a man-purse on the number plate, thanks for asking.........

We camped in our big tent and the kids had a blast. We were the only ones slumming it in a tent......we decided we need a toyhauler!!! The kids ate all sorts of junk food and loved playing with the two dogs that were there (Bailey and Annie). We made dutch oven cinnamon rolls on Saturday morning and did a big Tri-tip cookout with baked potatos, salad, baked beans, and pie on Saturday evening. We took a nature walk and Landon scaled this rock wall with ease! It was crazy to watch him look for foothold and handholds on the way up. I was right behind him, of course, because he is still kinda clumsy. He thought he conquered the world when he got to the time. It was about 6 feet up......no fear with that little guy. Headed home early sunday morning in time for church.

Swim Lessons

Today was the last day of swim lessons for the kids. They both did great this year. Huge improvements year by year. Skye is doing so great. She can almost swim the whole length of the pool without stopping. Landon is like a little fish. He loves being in the water. He is learning to blow bubbles and he can float by himself with a noodle. Stacy and the kids go to Dry Town (the water park close by) at least 3X a week during the summer which is another reason why the kids are getting so comfortable in the water. I spared you all the pictures of the chubby white guy that was in the pool with the kids today......

4th of July

Had a great 4th of July. Went to the church this morning for a pancake breakfast. Worked around the house the rest of the day. BBQ and homemade ice cream like always and then fireworks at the High School. The kids had a blast doing sparklers and small fireworks. Landon kept saying "do it again, dad, do it again" over and over and over again.

Hume Lake - June 2009

This past week, I had the opportunity to take 4 of my Young Men to Hume Lake in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Park. We camped in the lake campground for the week and did a bunch of activities in the area. The highlights were cruising the lake in our wood/canvas kayak that we spent 6 months building. It worked great! The boys also had a blast playing on the floating log that has been in the inlet pool to the lake for decades. We also visited Kings Canyon National Park which was pretty amazing. Wished the weather was a little warmer, but the cool weather didn't keep the boys out of the water. No bear incidents either, although some little pillager managed to swipe 2 granola bars out of my backpack on Thursday night!!

Salt Lake City 1/2 Marathon - 18 April 2009

I ran in the SLC half-marathon this morning. 13.1 Miles!!! Its been a goal of mine for a long time to finish a half-marathon. The course started at the University of Utah, followed the east bench down into town, past Sugarhouse, and back north into downtown SLC, finishing at the Gateway Mall.

My final time was 2 hours 07 minutes with an average pace of 9:45. It was tough, but a good time. My legs are feeling it tonight. Time to start preparing for the next one.

Boy Scout Kayak

I am in the process of building a wood/canvas Kayak with my older Boy Scouts. We are going on a High Adventure activity in June to Hume Lake in Sequoia National Park. We have been workingn on it since late January. This past week, Tyler, Nate, Zach, Scott and I put the first strakes on. All of the strakes are not on and the frame is almost all complete. Next step is to build a plywood floor, seat cusion and seat back, paint the frame and then cover it in canvas. Last step is to paint the canvas and then take it for a test drive. I just wonder which boy will win the coin toss as to who takes it for the first burn around the lake.

Before anyone thinks I crafty with wood and such, this whole thing was built off of a set of plans I ordered online and constructed with materials from Lowes and basic handtools. It is really quite easy once you get going. I was a little intimidated by the plans, but the plans turned out to be very well made.

Landon's B-day at the Park

Last weekend, we had a little b-day party for Landon with some friends at the local park. It was windy and started to rain/mist and it was chilly, but it was still a good time. The kids had a blast playing on the playground set and smacking the pinata. If anyone was wondering, yes, that is a craftsman jack handle as the pinata stick, and yes, it worked great!!!!

Today was Landon's 2nd birthday. We had a blast spending the evening together. He loved his new play guitar, books, clothes, building blocks, and tool set. Can't believe it's been 2 years. He is such a good boy and we feel very blessed.

$100.00 Omlet - Flying from Ramona to French Valley

Dad and I took the Cessna for a burn from Ramona to French Valley Airport (Temecula) this morning. It was a picture perfect Southern California morning, although it was a bit on the nippy side (34 degrees). We were airborne by 7:15am for the short 20 min flight north. We ate and then made our way out of the increasingly busy traffic pattern at French Valley and headed home. We found the Ramona Airport deserted and for good reason.....winds were blowing 22 knots across the runway. The little Cessna does OK in the wind, but we were glad to land. Overall a good time. Need to go flying more.

Yep, 8"+ of snow in Socal and no signs of letting up. Had a blast making a snowman this morning. Next up, dragging the kids behind the Honda 50 on the sled. Have to warm them up to the idea because right now they don't want any part of dad being a kid again.

Christmas Tree - 2008

True to our family tradition, we made the trek to Tehachapi this past Saturday to find a live Christmas Tree, cut it down, and bring it home. We surprisingly found a nice tree pretty quickly but we cruised around the lot looking for a better one. Finally settling on the first tree we picked, Landon and Skye helped me cut it down. Landon found an interesting stump which he made his home for a few minutes. Doesn't take much to entertain the little guy!

Tonight, we brought the tree in and decorated it. Last year Landon was too young to really get into it, but this year, he couldn't get enough of decorating the tree. He kept grabbing ornaments and throwing them on the tree. He also likes our tree so much that he gives it hugs when he passed by. He was so excited to be able to help this year. We heard "look it" about 1ooo times tonight. He has also picked up saying "goodness", which is pretty dang funny.

Palmdale 10K

Some time ago I set a goal to run a 10K race and then eventually a half marathon. On November 8, I finished a local 10K in 59:25. It was a blast being out there running on the street and the feeling of finishing was great. I signed up for the SLC Half Marathon in April of next year, so I am currently getting ready for that.

The kid in the picture is one of my scouts who did the race as well. He finished well ahead of me and came back and ran the last 1/4 mile with me.

Darren and I went on a Yes on 8 sign event today in Irvine. We were standing at a major intersection near a shopping mall with about 250 other Yes on 8 people and a handful of No on 8 people, who i am sure felt out of place.

This blonde young lady drove by honking and yelling YES ON 8. Next thing we knew, she came up behind us with a Yes on 8 sign and asked if she could join in. We of course put her to work holding a sign. At this point, she was dressed normally.

Then, she gets this bright idea to go put on her "Devil Hooker" Halloween costume that she wore last night to show all the gay guys driving by "what they're missing". We of course didn't encourage her, but she was gone before we knew it. Next thing we know, she is walking down the street, all garbed up in her Halloween costume, holding her Yes on 8 sign. It was quite the sight to see her amongst a huge group of Mormons!!

Todd, I mean Skye, got a new toy tonight. Found an almost brand new 2007 Honda cfr50. We had a blast burning around the neighborhood. Can't wait to get Skye out there on the dirt. Landon kept saying "cycle....cycle.....cycle.....vroom....vroom..." on the way home. He is rearing to go, too!

Lombardi Ranch - Oct. 24, 2008

Todd ditched work early yesterday and went to Lombardi Ranch with Stacy and the kids. We went on a guided tour of the ranch and checked out some animals and the petting zoo. Landon was SOOO tired, but once we let him run around, he had a blast. He especially liked the petting zoo where he tried to poke all the animals in the eyes. They must get that alot cause they just sat there and took the abuse!!!! We got to pick a few pumpkins to bring home. I have a feeling FHE on monday is going to be pumpkin carving night. Treadmill Thrill Ride.........

Don't ask me why, but my kids love the 1 second thrill ride on the treadmill. Skye thinks its funny to crank up the speed and watch Landon try to keep his balance. It has really helped him learn to balance alot better. They will do this for hours, if we let them. They have a blast! Ahh, to be young again.........

Camping At Hume Lake - Sept. 5-7

This past weekend, we took a trip up to Hume Lake in the Sequoia National Forest. We took some time to visit some of the giant Sequoia trees in the Sequoia/Kings Canyon area. We drove to Chad and Lyndsay's in Clovis on Thursday afternoon, spent the night at their house, then hit the road for the Lake late Friday morning. After we got to the park, we stopped at General Grant's tree on the way to the campground. Don't ask me the story about that big tree, cause I don't remember, but Stacy might. Landon took a nice face plant once he was set free from his mean old car seat. He was running up the path and WHAM.......he tripped over his feet and face planted on the asphalt. Poor guy. I snapped a great picture of his pain, but Stacy wouldn't let me post it!!!! He was back at it within minutes having the time of his life.

After we got checked into the campsites and camp set up, we went down for a leisurly stroll around the lake, which turned into a 3.5 mile hike. It was really cool to see the whole lake, but we brought too much stuff along the way to carry. After getting back to camp, Chad and Lyndsay made a great BBQ chicken meal with corn on the cob, salad and the works. Great food!

Saturday morning, Grandpa and Skye made a very healthy french toast/peach dutch oven meal. it had lots of brown sugar, butter and all that good stuff in it. Needless to say, it tasted fantastic! We spent Saturday at Celebrate Sequoia! at a nearby campground, which was a festival with booths and crafts and stuff. After doing that, we headed down to the lake and that is where we tried to roll the log. Grandpa, Chad and I could only get about a quarter rotation. We convinced ourselves that it is bottom heavy and there is no way to actually spin it. We tried, but we kept falling off. I took Skye out on it with me. She was really brave, but we went in the water a few times. The water was freezing, by the way, but we kinda got used to it after being in it for awhile. Everyone had a blast at the lake beach. For dinner, I made a chicken/rice dutch oven recipe that we tried in Wrightwood in July.

Sunday, we got up and had dutch oven sour cream coffee cake, broke camp, and headed down to the lake. We rented a rowboat and chad and lyndsay paddled the lake in a canoe. Landon contributed to the peace and serenity of the clear blue mountain lake by screaming most of the time. Once I decided to go back, he quieted down and chilled with Skye as they dipped their hands in the water. After we got back, we fed the ducks the last of our bread rolls and hit the road for home.

Hume Lake is a fantastic place. We will definitely be going back there again, maybe every year. There is alot to do there and we could only fit in a fraction of what there is to do.

Dance Recital

Yesterday was Skye's annual dance recital at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. She did a great job, although she said that she had butterflies. She has worked hard over the last year to learn her dance steps. The whole recital was great. Here are some pics

Camping in Wrightwood

Oddly enough, we had a free weekend and took advantage of it by packing the car and heading to the mountains for a weekend of camping. We weren't able to get out at all last summer, so we didn't want another summer to pass without camping. Plus, this was Landon's first time camping and he had an absolute blast. Trying to contain that child is another story. He was running all over the place having the time of his life. That included trying to put everything in his mouth, including pine cones.

We camped at Table Mountain which is right near the ski resorts in Wrightwood, about an hour from home. The campground was nice and there weren't alot of people there when we got there, but most of the great sites were taken. People obviously have their favorites! We found a nice site and set up camp. Todd tried a new dutch oven recipe of chicken and rice which actually turned out pretty great. We hung out after eating, playing with the kids and then it was time for smores. Both kids loved smores like any kid would.

The night actually we very well. Landon slept the whole night without so much as a wimper but he was up early and ready to go. We made dutch oven cinnamon roles for breakfast and chilled for a bit before breaking camp. After we broke camp, we headed over to the Grassy Hollows visitor center which was nice. Skye got to learn all about the different animals (including bears) in the Angeles National Forest. Landon liked it too, but he was kinda ticked that he couldn't touch everything in sight! After the visitor's center, we stopped by Jackson Lake to walk around. It is more of a pond, but Skye and I took a walk while Landon and mom slept in the car.

Overall a great weekend. Our next trip to Hume Lake is planned in early September for a few days. Looking forward to that one.

Boy Scout High Adventure - San Diego

I am back after spending a week beach camping with my scouts in San Diego. We camped for a week at San Elijo State Beach and the kids had a blast. We visited the USS Midway Museum, Pacific Beach, Solana Beach, and La Jolla. We also spent half a day sportfishing in the kelp beds off of Point Loma. We didn't catch alot of fish, but it sure was a blast to be out there with the boys as they tried their hardest. Tyler had a small baracuda on the line and he was reeling it in. As he was about to pull it out of the water, a sea lion came up from underneath and swiped the fish right off the line. We all had a good laugh.....including Tyler. included are some pictures of the trip.

Weight Watchers Contest

Yep, I entered a weight watchers contest, mostly because we want a free trip to New York in September. Here is the essay I wrote and a before and after pic. I think you can tell which pic is which.

Ever since I can remember, I have struggled with setting lofty goals and then doing whatever it takes to achieve them. This was never more evident than in my weight loss struggle over the last 10 years.

I found myself putting on the pounds during college after becoming engrossed in my studies and giving up my gym membership. Coupled with terrible eating habits, lack of exercise and a generally lazy attitude toward being healthy, I found myself continually buying bigger and bigger clothes. Upon entering the workforce, I officially became the poster boy of a sedentary lifestyle, sitting at a computer (and eating) all day. After seeing some photos of myself following a family function to celebrate the adoption of my second child, I decided that something had to be done. I looked unhealthy, I felt unhealthy and I was determined to do something about it.

Once I got started and began seeing results on the scale, I became more and more determined to be successful with this goal, no matter what. I put weight loss at the top of my list of priorities. As the pounds continued to come off, I surprised even myself at my determination and began to be proud of myself for sticking with my goal. When it became hard, and it did many times, I would tell myself that if this journey were going to be easy, there would not be an abundance of people who struggle with weight loss.

A major key to my success was consistent exercise. When I started losing weight, I decided to dust off the treadmill that I had used sporadically over the previous year and put it to use. I put a TV on the wall, strapped an ipod to my arm, and started slowly. I gradually built up to 4 miles a day, 5 times a week, which is my current workout regimen. I found that I enjoyed my time on the treadmill and have looked forward to my 1 hour of solace each day.

Coming back to Weight Watchers has been the best thing I have done for myself in my life. I have more energy, I sleep better, I look better, I buy clothes that I like, and my wife enjoys being able to put her arms all the way around me again. What more could a guy want?

Father's Day

It was a great father's day today. Skye and Stacy got up and made waffles with whipped cream and berries for breakfast. Went to church, came home and took a nap (a looooong nap), made my favorite dinner of beef stroganoff and corn on the cob and finished up with homemade ice cream. I got a new work shirt and some new colgne, which was a nice gift. Hope everyone had a great Father's Day.

Club Libby Lu

If you have a little girl, I guarantee you that she knows what Club Libby Lu is. If you don't know, it is a place in the mall where little girls can go (and I suppose big girls that haven't quite gotten out of the Hannah Montana stage of life yet) to get a "Hannah Montana" makeover. They give you the heatset microphone getup and everything. Skye got up there and broke it down after her makeover was done.....in front of all the people walking by in the mall. She is quite the little dancer! Enjoy the pics

We have become farmers this year, but so far we are losing the battle to a squirrel who likes our strawberries. That little bugger waits until it is just ripe and then he plucks it off the plant. This has happened two times in a row, so we have yet to eat our first red strawberry. Other plants that we planted are snap peas, carrots, radishes, corn, broccoli, green peppers and of course, my favorite, tomatos. We have been learning how to garden in a preparedness class that is put on by the Lancaster Stake, so we are putting to practice our new (limited) knowledge. So far, so good, I guess.

Grandpa's Airplane

Last weekend, Landon and I went up to Grandpa's hangar to help him do a few things. We took the airplane for a little ride over the gas pump to get gas for a trip to Arizona later that week. He started in the back seat, but I think all the buttons and stuff to look at in the front seat were too much for him, so by the time we made it to the pump, he was on my lap. The point: the group wants to "help Americans break free from the 'carbon footprint guilt' being imposed by Climate Alarmists."

Grassfire.org says it's skeptical over claims that man-made sources of carbon dioxide emissions -- from automobile exhausts to manufacturing plants -- are raising the Earth's temperature at a dangerous rate. Theories about global warming were highlighted by former Vice President Al Gore's 2006 film, An Inconvenient Truth.
Grassfire.org president Steve Elliott, in a statement, said such theories are off the mark. "It's time for Americans to purge ourselves of the false guilt that Al Gore and the Climate Alarmists have placed on us," Elliott said.
Grassfire.org said it chose June 12 as the day it wants Americans to rev up their SUVs because it coincides with expected debate in Congress over a $1.2 billion carbon tax rebate program. "Carbon Belch Day will have at least as much impact on the so-called 'planetary emergency' of man-made global warming as the goofy save the earth mandates telling us to turn our lights off for an hour," said Elliott.
Cities around the world went dark for an hour on March 31 to mark "Earth Hour," an event created by the World Wide Fund for Nature to inspire people to find ways to use less energy.
Grassfire.org is the latest group to question whether global warming is a real phenomenon, or whether it's as severe as portrayed in Gore's film. London's Daily Telegraph this week called environmentalism "the new secular faith."
The paper said the United Kingdom's carbon credits program for industry is "just like the medieval trade in indulgences, where remission for sins was granted by the Church once the sinner confessed and received absolution."
Noted physicist Frederick Seitz, a former president of the National Academy of Sciences, has also questioned the accuracy of global warming theories, as have a number of other academics.
Despite such skepticism, many U.S. companies -- including IT vendors like Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft -- are developing new lines of energy-saving products billed as Earth friendly. IBM (NYSE: IBM), for instance, recently launched Project Big Green, a $1 billion investment to increase the energy efficiency of the company's offerings.
For buyers of such systems, whether or not global warming is real is beside the point. Skyrocketing fuel costs are forcing businesses to cut down on energy consumption in as many ways as possible. As a result, it's unlikely many will decide to "belch" away hard-earned dollars on June 12.

Hannah Montana B-Day Party

We ate some good food, the kids played games and danced, they made picture frames, then we dressed the girls up in a HM wig and stuff and took pictures for their frames. My New Lawnmowing Buddy

Landon goes ape-crazy if he sees me out in the backyard without him. He stands at the sliding glass door, with his face pressed up against it with a longing look. I think he is wondering why he has to be inside. So, because he is so dang cute, i had to figure out a way to get yardwork done with him in tow. I didn't want to let him run around the yard while I was mowing because he is mesmerized by the lawnmower and doesn't realize it is dangerous. So, the kid backpack was the next best thing. He chills out up there and doesn't take his eyes off of what is going on. I like to look at it as "training 'em young" because the sooner he can push the mower, the sooner I don't have to!

Skiing at Mountain High - March 7, 2008

Skye learned to ski today at Mountain High Ski Resort with her cousins Jacob and Alex. They had a class together at the Ski School with an instructor named Mark. They spent the morning on the bunny hill with the escalator lift and then they ventured onto a Green Run for the rest of the day. They learned how to ride on the lift too, which was pretty cool. They learned that when their skis are parallel, it is called "french fry" and when they want to slow down or stop, "pizza", as in pizza wedge. They picked on on skiing so fast that Darren and I were amazed.

While the kids were in their class, Darren and I chilled out on the green runs to get warmed up and then went up higher to do some Blue runs. We had an awesome time and the weather was absolutely beautiful.....about 55 degrees (actually a little on the warm side).

After the class, we checked the kids out of the school and then went on some runs together. We all had a blast and I think they are all hooked on skiing now. Enjoy the pics.....

Snow Play - Wrightwood, CA

Had someone told me that there was over 3 feet of snow on the ground in Wrightwood, I would have never believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself. Even though the weather was not supposed to be the greatest yesterday, we decided to haul the kids up the mountain to try out our new sled. We made it all the way to the West Resort of Mountain High and then the road wasn't plowed any further. We tried to go further, but they were plowing and we couldn't get through. So, we turned around and went back to the west resort parking lot. We parked and found a nice hill that we thought we could sled on, but the snow was WAY to deep. It was literally up to my hip as Skye and I tried to go up the hill for a ride down. We quickly decided that wasn't going to work, so we jumped back in the car and headed out of Wrightwood where they only got about 12-18 inches of new snow overnight. We found a great place to park and went and found our own little hill with a natural jump in it. The snow was still fluffy and deep, so it took a few runs for us to get it packed down so we could have some fun. Then, we spent over an hour doing run after run. Landon even went down the hill with us and he was probably wondering what we were doing.

We built a snow man too, which was pretty cool. You can see it in the distance in one of the pictures. We didn't take the camera with us to the hill, so I had to snap a shot from the distance. Our snowman was loved so much that a group of people from a country to the south of us stopped by and started taking pictures next to it. We thought that was kinda weird that they wanted to take pictures of someone elses snowman instead of building one of their own!! We saw plenty of weird things yesterday including a dude with a used car tire that he apparently thought would work as a sled......BF Goodrich 225/65/15 I think it was.....Anyway, plenty of gold teeth and cubic zirconium stud earings to go around yesterday.

Also, while we were on the mountain, apparently there was a large avalanche. A 23 yr old off-duty ski patrol guy was killed and another guy is missing. There were cops, paramedics, Search and Rescue and firemen all over the mountain yesterday. Word is that this is the first known avalanche at the Wrightwood ski resorts ever recorded. it happened in the backcountry of the East Resort, out of boundaries. I noticed last night that the Mountain High Ski Resort had a blurb on their website to not ski out of boundaries because it is not safe. I bet their lawyers made them put that up!

We celebrated Landon's birthday tonight. Todd was camping Friday night with the Scouts and Saturday afternoon was spent cleaning camping gear and picking up Skye's new bedroom furniture, so by the time we ate and got cleaned up, Landon was ready for bed. So, we decided to celebrate tonight (Sunday) instead. Landon loved the presents he got and we had a nice dinner, opened presents and had cake. We plan to have a full family celebration when we go to San Diego next month, so he will kinda get two birthday celebrations! Enjoy the pics!

La Jolla Shores - San Diego

Today we took the kids down to La Jolla Shores to play on the beach. This was Landon's first beach adventure and he couldn't get enough. He kept going straight for the water and had no fear whatsoever. He kept trying to figure out the sand on his hands and feet. When all was said and done, his clothes were soaked and all sandy. We got some great pictures! Skye and Alexa had a blast looking for sea shells in the sand and watching Landon go crazy.

Christmas Day - 2007

Christmas day has come and gone once again. We always look forward to Christmas day because it is a day that we sit around and do pretty much nothing other than hang out with the family. The cousins had a great time together and Christmas morning was a blast, like it always is. Skye loved her presents and Landon was in heaven crawling around looking at everyone's new stuff. Stacy got a macro lense for her Nikon D70 digital camera and she is loving being able to take close up pictures of the kids. Todd bought his own present this year (snowboarding jacket) which is a great way to do Christmas. We hope all of our family and friends had a great Christmas day!

Christmas - - - 2007

Last year on New Year’s Eve, we had some friends over to celebrate with us. As the kids played upstairs, the big people sat around the table talking as we were accustomed to. As the topic of blessings came up, our friend Matt said, “2007 is going to the year of miracles!” As we sit here at the end of 2007 reflecting back over the year, we have realized just how truly blessed our families have been. It was about 1 year ago when our family found out that we were chosen to be the adoptive family of our little Landon. When we actually found out that we had been chosen on Christmas Eve last year, we could have ended Christmas right there and then because we couldn’t have asked for a better Christmas gift. The following months contained events that were truly inspired because we don’t have any other way to explain them. Landon was born the third week of January and our lives have been even busier and happier ever since. This year, we each wanted to list a few things that we are most grateful for as we look back over the year.

Todd: “I am grateful for a wife and mother who is the most dedicated and hard working person I have ever met. She cares for our kids, works from home, teaches Skye, changes diapers, drives all over town to dance and PE classes, and a myriad of other things. I am thankful to have such a wonderfully perfect mother for my kids.”

Stacy: “I am grateful for a husband who is thoughtful to say such nice things about me, especially on those days that you doubt yourself. I am grateful for two healthy, happy, energetic, unique children that because of them I can be called a mom. I am grateful for another mother that I call our family’s hero, that showed our family what true love and selflessness is.

Skye: “I am grateful for Landon’s birthmom because she gave us Landon.” (now after she said this we had to ask her to tell us more things she was grateful for because she stopped at this one…after wiping our tears away, this is what else she said) “I am grateful for my family, playing tag with Landon, jumping on the trampoline, my dance class, our house.” (parent side note…we are especially thankful for a warm home at this time of year because it is so cold here in Palmdale…we had snow last night!)

Landon: We’re just sure he would say: “Balls that I can throw and chase around the house, Desitin Cream, Cheerios, binkies, wooden chairs that I like to gnaw on (we call him our little beaver), and lots of and friends and family that loved me even before I came home.”

As a family we are so grateful for each one of you that kept our family in your prayers and thoughts as we went through the adoption process and the encouragement through conversations, phone calls and emails. Thank you!

We acknowledge our Heavenly Father’s hand in our lives and we are grateful to Him for a year of miracles.

Disneyland....December 2007

We like to go to Disneyland at Christmas-time every year mostly so we can ride "It's a Small World" which is Stacy's favorite ride. :) Anyway, Disneyland is great at Christmas and we had a blast. I didn't think there would be too many people there because it was a Friday in the middle of December, but apparently everyone in Southern California had the same idea as us.

We got to ride the new Nemo submarine ride for the first time, so that was cool. Landon liked the water and bubbles so much that it made him pee on my leg (his diaper leaked). So, that was pretty nice. Enjoy the pics!

Now the IPCC and the nations retarded enough to buy into The Church of Global Warming are proposing that a global Carbon Tax be established to raise 10-40 billion dollars a year to "combat global warming". One more step down the road of a global government. And guess what, they want to redistribute wealth too! They want to take your money and my money and redistribute it to poorer nations just because they can.

Not to worry, though. A group of 100 scientists and former members of the communist IPCC gathered to try to talk some sense into the group of politicians that flew their corporate jets to Bali to complain about the United States. As more and more evidence is gathered that the earths atmosphere goes through natural heating and cooling cycles, more and more real scientists are jeopardizing their grant funding by going public with their apprehensions about global warming because they actually have a shred of intellectual honesty left in them. I say good for them.

On a final note, isn't it ironic that while Al Gore and his pals are stroking each others egos in Bali that half of the United States is under a blanket of ice and snow? I wonder how many people in Oklahoma have global warming on their minds this week?

CHRISTmas Tree Tradition

We love the CHRISTmas season in our house. In fact, CHRISTmas season officially starts for us about November 1 when Stacy breaks out the CHRISTmas music. One tradition that Stacy and I started while we lived in Utah was to get a CHRISTmas Tree permit, take off in the Bronco (the only time of the year she would be seen in it) and go CHRISTmas tree hunting in the local mountains. We certainly had some good times :) Living in the State of Commiefornia, where the trees have more rights than the humans, the only place we can get a fresh cut CHRISTmas is in a CHRISTmas Tree farm. So, we take what we can get! Last Saturday, we headed up to Tehachapi, which is a little mountain town in the foothills of the Sierras, and hunted a CHRISTmas Tree. We had a great time, although it was pretty chilly. We picked a nice tree, which turned out to be terribly lopsided. We stuffed it inside the Yukon and headed home. On Sunday evening, we broke out the CHRISTmas decorations and made our house nice and festive. Enjoy the pics and enjoy the CHRISTmas season.

HALLOWEEN - 2007

Today is obviously Halloween and we wanted to throw up some pictures. I had to miss the festivities, unfortunately, because I had to spend the evening in class. Bummer! Stacy got the kiddos dressed up and took them to the mall to trick or treat. Skye was "Ariel" from Little Mermaid.....and now for the stinker.....Landon! Landon was obviously a "stinky skunk" and now we have matching pictures of Skye and Landon from when they were under 1 yr old! Everyone loved his costume!

Monday night, for Family Home Evening, we did the usual pumpkin carving. The face on the pumpkin was all Skye's idea and she even carved most of it. She refused to pull out the pumpkin guts, which is one of the things in the year that dad gets (read "has") to do as a dad. I HATE the smell of raw pumkin.....OK, pumpkin anything makes me nauseous (except for Kym's pumpkin/chocolate chip pancakes!!!).

Then on Tues, I met Stacy and the kiddos at the local pumpkin patch at lunchtime. Landon loved to feel the pumpkins but we actually had a hard time getting a good picture cause he couldn't figure out the straw on his feet! Oh yeah, did I mention we paid 10 bucks for our pumpkin? That's like paying 60 bucks for a dead tree to put in your living room for a few weeks. You are paying "for the experience"!!!!!!

After working all day on chores and primary activities, we took some time to play outside like we normally do in the evenings. I usually take Skye outside and jump for a few minutes before it is bedtime. Tonight, Landon pretty much went beserk when he saw me take Skye outside onto the trampoline. He was squirming every which way in his booster seat to turn around to see what all the ruckus was about in the backyard. When he saw us on the trampoline, he figured out how to turn around and stand up in his booster seat. He was looking at us like "oh come on guys, I want to play too". So, we took him out to play and he went crazy on the trampoline. He giggles and laughs non-stop. Check out the attached video.

California Fires

Just wanted to give an update on the fires in our area. Luckily, sand and Joshua Trees don't burn too well, so our family has been spared any direct effect from the fires. We are close to the Santa Clarita area, but we are far enough away that we are safe and sound. Mom and Dad in Poway were evacuated but are back home now. Brad and Button are still displaced for the time being and hanging out at Darren and Kym's in Irvine.

I thought it was kinda interesting that Michael Chertoff, Director of Homeland Security, had his mug all over the news today talking about the fires. My only question is why is Homeland Security involved at all? Is an environmental disaster all of the sudden a homeland security issue or is he all of the sudden concerned about those to the south of us making a mad dash through the flames to "immigrate" to the US? Isn't the main mission of Homeland Security to protect America from terrorist attacks?

On a related note.....does anyone else think that 17 fires all pretty much starting within 24 hours of each other on a day that powerful Santa Ana winds are forecast is a little bit suspicious? I mean, there are already reports of arson on more than one of these fires, but I find it interesting that these fires all spring up on the same day overtaxing our emergency services. Could any of this have been coordinated? I don't know. Just asking some questions. Stay tuned.........

Shaver Lake - Oct. 20-21, 2007

We had a great weekend! We jumped in the car on friday afternoon and drove to Chad and Lyndsay's new house in Clovis, CA and spend the evening with them and grandma and grandpa McCollum. Their house is GREAT! Then, on Saturday we drove up to Shaver Lake which is in the Sierra Mountains outside of Fresno/Clovis. If you have ever been in the Sierra-Nevada mountains, I think you will agree that it is a spectacular place. We stayed in Lyndsay's parent's cabin in the woods a few miles away from the town of Shaver Lake and the lake itself. We spent the rest of Saturday hanging out at the cabin, watching the blue jays take peanuts off the back porch, hiking around a development of "cabins" and playing on a rope swing. When we were driving home today, we asked Skye what her favorite part of the weekend was and she said the rope swing......hands down! She couldn't get enough of it.

The weather was absolutely perfect with day temps in the 50-60's and night temps of around 30.

This morning, after sleeping in a little bit, we got up and made breakfast and then headed out for a walk. We saw some beautiful cabins and it was just great to be outside in the clean air. Landon loved riding in the kid backpack and he had a great time watching everything around him. After our walk, we cleaned up the cabin and headed back to Clovis. After eating a late lunch, we drove home to Palmdale only to find most of southern California on fire from the Mexico border to just south of us in Santa Clarita. Yikes!!!!

Sailing Symposium - Oct. 13, 2007

Yesterday, I took 6 of my Scouts (ages 14-18) to Marina Del Ray to a Sailing Symposium that the Western Los Angeles County Council of the Boy Scouts of America puts on every year in partnership with the San Fernando Yacht Club. This was the 39th consecutive year that they have done this event. There were about 10 boats and skippers that took the kids out and let them sail the boats. They raced pylons just outside the breakwater of Marina Del Ray on the Ocean. The only incident was two boats colliding and two of my young men were on the boat that got hit. One boat cut inside of another one but didn't turn tight enought and clobbered another boat with the anchor hanging off the front. It did some serious damage but they were able to motor back to the harbor and put the boat on a trailer. I am sure it will be an experience that Tyler and Chris will never forget!

What is a "Carbon Footprint".....

According to the treehuggers, everyone has a carbon footprint. You do and I do. In order to make them feel better about their treehugger hypocrisy, some genious came up with the idea to guilt the public into buying "carbon offset credits" which means you atone for your evil CO2 emissions by paying money to "emission reduction projects (ie. treehugger organizations or "them")". This is supposed to make you feel warm inside that you are doing your part to combat climate change if you drive a SUV or you are zooming around the world in a Gulfstream V burning ridiculous amounts of Jet A. The practice of indulgences comes to mind here for some reason. Anyway, then they take your offset credit money and continue to lie to the world about this extreme climate crisis that we are supposedly in.

Speaking of climate change......have you noticed that the earth worshippers have changed the name of their pet crisis yet again?

1970's: Global Cooling
1980's-1990's: Global Warming
2000's: Global Climate Change

Now they have realized that their precious predictions that the earth would be sweltering by now were wrong and they have also realized that while some parts of the earth are warming while others are cooling, their previous description of "Global Warming" wasn't exactly accurate. Their current crisis is now called "Climate Change". I suspect in another 10 years we will be back to "get your parka ready cause we are all going to freeze to death."

The Global Climate change crisis that Al Gore has been promoting over the last few years is simply a political issue, not a climate issue at all. The globalist politicians want to be able to tax the general population even more and this is a new way to tax people. Think about it. If all of the sudden the "experts" say there is no climate crisis, guess what dries up? Their research funding. So, they have manufactured crisis after crisis and the research dollars keep pouring in as they continue to try to pull the wool over the eyes of the ignorant general population.

Climate change is cyclical and has been going on since the beginning of time. The inconvenient truth is that there is mountains of evidence to support the cyclic nature of climate change. Leave it to arrogant humans to think that we are significant enough to monkey with mother nature. We are insignificant beings and mother nature reminds us of that from time to time.

Skye on the Trampoline

I don't know how Icaught this picture because I am not a good photographer at all, but this is what Skye loves to do everyday. Button once said that the trampoline is the best babysitter ever invented and its true!!! Skye doesn't like to jump too much by herself but we do jump together almost everyday.
